2004/2005 season updates April 29th 2005 Heading up to Valdez today. My knee is feeling better, pretty excited. Planning on staying until about the middle of May. I have had a couple fun days riding at Skagway in the last week, nothing overly exciting happened on my part, however our young friend Steven Boyd trew down his first flip, which I think is bad ass because he never did one into water or off a ramp, just went and stomped it out in the mountains. Atta boy Steve-O!!! April 18th 2005 Rolled into the driveway a couple nights ago, It's nice to be home. Valdez was great, sun and powder. We went to Arctic Man after Valdez, the snow sucked but the partying was good. After Arctic Man we went back to Anchorage to hit Turnagain Pass for a few days, had one good day but then had a mishap that has had me off my sled for the last 5 or 6 days. I was hitting a whip jump and it seems I had a big clump of snow on my tether from a couple of previous crashes. As I hit the jump, my tether came out and my sled shut off. I am sort of uncertain on the exact details of what happened but the result was my knee being twisted out of it's socket and me being off my sled for a little while. I have tried to stay off it for the last few days and it is definately on the mend. I hope to be riding in 5 days or so again and back up to alaska within a week and a half or so. I put up a few pictures form our last day in Valdez. This is a 100+ foot flip that I am rather proud of. March 28th 2005 Got back from Haines yesterday, had a great time as always. Weather didn't really cooperate all that well, but we did have one awesome day. Got to ride with my buddies from B.C.; Dave Craig, Scott Rattray, and Cody Borchers. Aaron Von Hessinger came up from Montana too. Didn't do any flips or real big jumps but we did find some sick whip hits. lots of fun. We are currently getting ready to head up to Valdez, planning on leaving tomarrow or at the latest on the 30th. Just have to tie up some loose ends here in town. I will put up a picture or two from haines as soon as I get them. March 16th. Well.... I decided to see what happens when you under-rotate a backflip today. I have to say, I don't really recomend it. We built a flip jump at the Skagway summit, on the top of a big steep hill. It is a setup which is pretty much entirely differrent than the flip jumps I have hit before. There is a big fall away before the landing, which made me somewhat concerned about over-rotataing, due to the extra time in the air. The light at the time I hit the jump was also bad. There was sun on the in-run and the jump, but the landing was in the shade. Being nervous about over rotating, I let off the gas a bit sooner than I normally would have, and to be honest I thought I was higher than I was, actually i thought i was about 10 feet up when i hit the ground, face first. Although I am a little disappointed in myself for screwing up, in my own defense, it was really disorienting to go from bright sun lit snow, to being upside down with the sun in my eyes, to trying to see the ground, and how high I was, in the shade. Oh well. I'm ok and my sled, although a little worse for wear, is only in need of a few minor brackets and bits and pieces. I will try to put a couple pics up, and maybe a video. And in case you are wondering, yes I am going to go back and get revenge on that jump... March 10th 2005 Home!!! stoked. 14 hour drive, uneventful, which is good. Rolled in the driveway at 3:00 am.. I had a big box of gear from 686 waiting for me when I got home, super nice stuff and i'm looking forward to trying it out. I have to do a bit of work on my sled but I'm hoping to go for a ride or two before I go to Stewart. Any decent pictures will be up on the site. March 8th 2005 Not too much new here. It's been raining steady for the last few days. Plan on heading for home tomarrow. March 4th 2005 Had nice weather a couple days ago, but I crashed my sled and broke a tie rod and lost my steering. Had to spend the rest of the day basking in the sun. As bad as it sounds it was still a pretty pleasant day. Today was more or less awesome. Had great sun in the morning, did a pretty decent step up a few times, well, actually Dan Phillips, Chris Tophe and I killed it until the take off was chewed up and we cased the cornice. I hucked a couple flips off of a jump we have had built for a few days. There are a bunch or rocks that have to be cleared to make the landing and the whole thing is on a side hill and off kilter so I have been running it through my head for a couple days deciding if I want to hit it. Well..... Excitement and general overconfidence prevailed and I hit it a couple times. Turned out great. Made tranny no problem however due to the crooked nature of the jump and run in, I landed at about 45 degrees off from ideal direction and balled up both times. Got some great shots though, and the helmet cam footy turned out sick. It'll be in 2SCS, the other shots will be in Turnagain. Hope tommarrow is nice, I want to try and adjust the jump a bit and land one or two. Todays jumps measured out to 85 feet. March 1st 2005 Weather was ok today. Hit our distance jump a few times. The farthest I went was somewhere in the 180-190 foot range. I think our jump is a little off camber, even though it looks ok. I started to drift sideways about halfway through the air and landed crooked enough that I couldn't hold onto the sled. It is supposed to be decent weather tomarrow so the jump will probably get fixed up a bit and hit some more. I will throw up a couple more photos if things turn out. Feb 25th 2005 Finally had some sun yesterday, not even bluebird, just enough that you could see what you were doing. Pulled another flip, I went a little bigger and it came around real smooth and felt quite a bit more controled. We spent most of the day building the distance jump we hit last year. This year it is way bigger, kinda scary looking actually. Should make for some good action when the sun reappears. Feb 19th 2005 I drove up to Alaska on the 17th, everything went fine and the truck that Lone Wolf Autotech hooked me up with ran awesome the whole way. Super stoked to be up in Alaska again, living with the Twins (Turnagain Hardcore) and filming with Frontier Films as well. Hucked my first backflip today at Turnagain Pass. I did two flips, the first one I got bucked off on the landing but the second one was real smooth. I plan on doing a couple more tomarrow and then stepping up to a new location and hopefully bigger flips. We plan on building the world record distance jump again as well as some others that should be pretty sick! Check out the photos in the photo section. Credits for the flip photos go to Sebastian Landry of Turnagain Hardcore. Feb 12th 2005 I am currently getting ready to head up to Alaska on the 16th of February. I will be riding with Frontier Films and Turnagain Hard Core. Conditions are supposed to be great and I am really stoked |
